Officials: Rock Hill motorcyclist killed in York County Memorial Day 2-vehicle crash

A motorcyclist was killed and another driver was hurt in a fatal collision on Memorial Day in York County, troopers said.

Michael O’Donnell, 28, of Rock Hill, died at the scene of the crash, said Sabrina Gast, York County Coroner.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. Monday on Lesslie Highway south of Rock Hill, said Trooper Joe Hovis of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

O’Donnell, the motorcycle driver, was heading north on Lesslie Highway when there was a collision with a 2001 Chevrolet vehicle, Hovis said.

O’Donnell was wearing a helmet but was ejected from the motorcycle, Hovis said.

Troopers, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, EMS, and the coroner’s office responded to the scene, officials said.

The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Piedmont Medical Center hospital in Rock Hill with injuries, Hovis said. The Chevrolet driver’s condition has not been released.

The wreck remains under investigation by the coroner and the S.C. Department of Public Safety Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT.)
