Driver found dead in car after Chester crash; SC troopers, coroner investigating

Police and coroner officials are investigating after a person was found dead in a car that had gone down an embankment in Chester County.

The car was found Wednesday along Ashford Road near Mountain Lake Road, about three miles south of the city of Chester, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol. Miller said it remains unclear when the crash happened.

Troopers found the deceased driver in a 2002 Honda Civic that had wrecked, Miller said.

The driver was not seat belted and was pronounced dead at the scene, Miller said.

The car had gone off the left side of the road where it hit a tree after going down the embankment, Miller said.

Investigators with the S.C Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash, along with members of the Chester County Coroner’s Office. Chester County Deputy Coroner Tommy Williams said the office is working to determine a timeline for the crash and death.

No other information, including the name of the person who was killed in the wreck, has been released.

The incident is the second fatal collision in two days in Chester County, and the third vehicle fatality in the county since Friday.
