Talk about heavy traffic. Nuclear station transport will mean York County road delay.

Three massive turbines will be on the move from Catawba Nuclear Station in Lake Wylie. Those moves will cause traffic delays.

There are three total turbines, each at 184 tons. They will go from Catawba to a recycling site in Gaston County. The first will head out July 26, followed by other trips now scheduled for Aug. 2 and Aug. 9.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid potential traffic delays.

The route, picked to avoid major roadways and limit the traffic impact, includes Concord Road, Hands Mill Highway/S.C. 274, S.C. 49, Mountain View Road, S.C. 55 and U.S. 321. The likeliest, longest delays are expected on Mountain View. The 17-mile trip will take about four hours.

Weather and other conditions could change the schedule. Barnhart Crane & Rigging will move the turbines by truck and trailer. Transport will take only one lane and the roads used will remain open to traffic. Trucks will travel no more than 30 mph.

Traffic lights will be temporarily removed at the S.C. 55/Quinn Road and Clinton Avenue/U.S. 321 intersections.
