UPDATE: First of its kind Rock Hill job fair postponed due to Hurricane Sally winds.
Expected high winds expected from Hurricane Sally will postpone a first of its kind job fair in Rock Hill.
The Herald reported earlier this week SC Works Catawba would bring the first curbside job fair to the region. The agency includes York, Lancaster and Chester counties. The event was set for Sept. 17 at the Kenneth Monroe Transformation Center at 745 Saluda St., Rock Hill.
The event was postponed. The new date is Sept. 24. Time, location and other details remain the same.
The event will allow job seekers to receive information packets on job opportunities in their industry of choice without leaving their vehicles. The event also will include food trucks and music. A similar event had been planned for August, but was rescheduled.
The unique to the area event is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which creates new challenges with social distancing.
“Drive through job fairs have become popular, but here in the Catawba region, we enjoy the challenge of meeting our job seekers where they are,” said Tyler Calloway, regional business solutions manager. “This job fair will provide them with real job opportunities and support services to see them through this pandemic.”
The job fair could precede others like it in the area.
