It’s a question that’s baffled great minds for generations, mainly since there’s no wrong answer. Doughnuts or cupcakes?

Business has been sweet of late with several new doughnut, cupcake or pastry shops opening across York County. Plus there are area mainstays. We want to know which one you think is best.

The Herald will build it’s own version of a “Sweet” 16 bracket to let readers decide who has the best treat in York, Lancaster or Chester counties. Shops will split into the Doughnut Region and the Cupcake Region. Each round, readers will narrow the field through online votes until only one fan favorite remains.

We already know many of the contenders. Now we want readers to let us know their favorite doughnut or cupcake shops to include in the bracket. Which bakery bangs out the best filled, glazed or topped doughnuts? Which cupcake shop display outshines the all the rest?

Any Rock Hill region bakery or sweet shop is eligible for nomination. Let us know which places just have to be included. Then look for our opening round of online voting on Nov. 8 at heraldonline.com.

It’s truly a competition where there are no losers. Who will win? It’s time to find out, one delectable round at a time.
