85-year-old Lancaster SC man dies after crash with truck pulling trailer, officials say

An 85-year-old man driving an SUV died Monday in Lancaster County after a crash with a truck pulling a trailer, officials said.

The fatal collision happened around 9:15 a.m. Monday on S.C. 200 between the city of Lancaster and the Catawba River.

The SUV’s driver, George Guise, of Lancaster, was killed, said Lancaster County Coroner Karla Knight-Deese.

Guise was driving a 2005 Lincoln SUV north when it struck a flat-bed trailer being pulled by a truck, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The truck was backing into Bennett Road from S.C. 200, Miller said.

Guise was taken to Medical University of South Carolina-Lancaster hospital, where he died, Miller said.

The driver of the truck pulling the trailer, a North Carolina man from near Charlotte, was not hurt, Miller said.

The wreck remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

The fatality is the 16th in Lancaster County in 2021, according to S.C. Department of Public Safety statistics. Lancaster County had 17 highway fatalities in 2020, records show.
