A driver died Wednesday after the pickup truck he was driving overturned Tuesday in a crash in York County, officials said.

The crash was just west of York on S.C. 49 near California Road, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The truck overturned after hitting a ditch and pole on the side of the road, Miller said.

The driver was hospitalized after the crash but died Wednesday afternoon, Miller said.

The York County Coroner’s Office has not released the driver’s name.

The highway fatality is the 40th in York County in 2021 so far, according to S.C. Department of Public Safety statistics. In 2020, York County reported 36 highway deaths, public safety department statistics show.
