Work set on a busy road for Fort Mill. Here’s where drivers should avoid

Stock image

Drivers in Fort Mill may want to find a new route on Wednesday, or give themselves a little longer to get where they’re going.

Town crews scheduled sewer repairs for Tuesday along Tom Hall Street, but then rescheduled to Wednesday. The town cautions drivers to avoid the area between Morrow Bradford Drive and the Wells Fargo bank branch if possible. The work will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Morrow Bradford accesses Unity Presbyterian Church and Unity Cemetery. On the opposite side of Tom Hall at the work site are insurance, real estate and law offices. It’s just east of Fort Mill Town Hall and the Main Street corridor.

The busy Tom Hall corridor has steady traffic from Fort Mill residents and serves as a common cut through area connecting Rock Hill, Indian Land, Tega Cay, Charlotte and Ballantyne through downtown. The prevalence of out-of-state tags along Tom Hall during rush hours has been a common discussion point during road planning discussion among town officials.

The nearest South Carolina Department of Transportation traffic count site, just west of the construction site, shows almost 20,000 vehicle trips per day pass through the area. The town has almost 25,000 residents.
