A Fort Mill intersection will permanently close. Here’s when and where the change comes

York County

Sam Smith Road near Sutton Road in Fort Mill will permanently close this month.

On March 27, the end of Sam Smith where it intersects Sutton will become a cul-de-sac. The goal is to improve overall traffic flow in the area. It’s part of Pennies for Progress work at Sutton and New Gray Rock Road. Sam Smith access will remain from Harris Road.

Signs will go up to alert the public, ahead of the changes.

Pennies director Patrick Hamilton said his group held a public meeting a couple of years ago and residents along Sam Smith were made aware of plans. There are 26 properties located along the full length of Sam Smith Road.

York County voters approved $3 million for turn lane improvements at Sutton, New Gray Rock, Sam Smith and Harris roads as part of the $278 million Pennies 4 referendum in 2017.
