A master water meter change this week affected some York County residents.

The Town of Fort Mill posted a public notice on its social media Tuesday about a Rock Hill meter replacement late Thursday night into Friday morning. The City of Rock Hill directly or indirectly provides water to most York County residents.

According to the notice in Fort Mill, the replacement was scheduled to take three hours. The town planned to fill its storage tanks in advance but asked residents to turn off irrigation systems to reduce water usage Thursday night into Friday morning.

“As most irrigation systems are automatically scheduled during night time hours this will be the largest single draw on the system during the outage time frame,” the town notice stated.

Customers may have noticed a drop in water pressure, or discoloration in water immediately following the work. Customers should run their cold water taps for a few minutes to resolve those issues, according to the notice.

Rock Hill customers get their water service directly from the city. Rock Hill sells wholesale water to Fort Mill, Tega Cay and the Catawba Indian Nation. Also to York County, which serves unincorporated areas including high-population centers like Lake Wylie.
