9-month-old girl dies in house fire in Chester, SC officials say
A 9-month-old girl has died after a house fire in Chester Monday night, according to the county coroner and Chester County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
The fire happened after 9 p.m. at 514 Second Street, which is off Saluda Road near the former Eureka Mill area and close to the J.A. Cochran Bypass.
Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker confirmed that the 9-month-old child died, but did not release her name.
An autopsy on the girl will be done Thursday, Tinker said.
Several fire units responded to the scene, officials said.
Chester Fire Department Chief James Jackson said Tuesday afternoon firefighters found the deceased girl in the house after working to put out the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Jackson said.
The State Law Enforcement Division responded because of the fire death. SLED is required to be part of the investigation because there was a fatality involved.
