Teen killed in Rock Hill golf cart crash remembered for ‘kind heart’ and ‘radiant smile’
Tributes about Marlie Dru Sullivan’s kind heart have been posted online for a week since the Rock Hill teen died at age 15 when a golf cart she was in collided with an SUV.
She had a “kind heart” and “radiant smile” that earned love and admiration from those who knew her, her obituary stated. Marlie’s funeral was Thursday in Rock Hill at St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Tributes described Marlie, who would’ve been a sophomore at Rock Hill High School, as a dedicated dance student generous with with others. Her death that has stunned the community prompted the hashtag #LiveLikeMarlie.
She was the only person killed in a crash that injured three others. Six total people were on the golf cart when a Honda CRV traveling in the wrong lane struck the cart, police said. A police investigation is ongoing.
“Our community will never be the same without her and we will strive to #LiveLikeMarlie each and every day,” Marlie’s obituary said.
Marlie had been dancing since she was 4 years old. She was a dancer at Step South Dance in Rock Hill. Her dedication to dance was so deep she had plans to dance at the college level, then open her own studio to “inspire and nurture young dancers,” her obituary said.
A public Facebook group page dedicated to her is called “LiveLikeMarlie.”
More than 770 people had joined the Facebook group as of Thursday. One person wrote on the page: “She was truly a light! Our community will never be the same without her and we will strive to #LiveLikeMarlie each and every day.”
Police: Crash investigation ongoing
The crash happened around 10 p.m July 25 on Laurel Creek Drive, police said. The area is north of Celanese Road in a residential area between India Hook Road and Twin Lakes Road.
The golf cart flipped after colliding with the Honda CRV, according to a statement from Rock Hill police. The three others injured in the golf cart were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
A week after the crash, the investigation by the departments Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team remains ongoing, said Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis.
But police have declined to release any other details about the crash, including the names of the other people on the golf cart and the driver of the SUV.
It remains unclear how long it will take for the investigation to be completed or if any charges will be filed.
