Traffic was backed up on northbound Interstate 77 for miles in York County Monday after a multi-vehicle collision near Fort Mill temporarily shut down all lanes of the highway, officials said.

S.C. Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed all northbound lanes back open at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

The crash site was near mile marker 84 south of S.C. 160. S.C. Department of Transportation cameras showed northbound backups for 5 miles through Rock Hill before lanes were reopened.

There were injuries in the wreck but details have not been released, York County Sheriff’s Office deputies said on social media.

S.C. DOT said the crash happened after 6:10 a.m.

Six vehicles, including tractor-trailers, were involved in the collision, sheriff deputies said.

Motorists previously were being diverted off I-77 north at Sutton Road, Exit 83, according to the York County Sheriff’s office. Drivers can take U.S. 21 north to return to 77 north.

The Fort Mill School District said bus schedules may be affected by heavy traffic after the wreck on I-77.
