6-year-old girl dies after morning house fire in Lancaster, SC, officials say

A 6-year-old girl has died after a South Carolina house fire in Lancaster County on Wednesday, a sheriff’s office spokesman said.

The morning fire was off Old Camden Highway near Heath Springs in the southern part of the county, said Doug Barfield, spokesman for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office, State Law Enforcement Division’s child fatality unit, Lancaster County Coroner’s Office, and county fire service are involved in the investigation, Barfield said. SLED investigates all fatalities of children in the state.

The child has not been identified by the coroner.

No firefighters were hurt, said Gary Baker, communications manager for Lancaster County government, which includes Lancaster County Fire and Rescue.

No other information about the cause of the fire has been released.
