York County motorcyclist dies after trying to avoid crash with SUV, trooper says
A York County motorcycle rider who was trying to avoid a collision with an SUV has died, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened Sunday around 5 p.m. on Garvin Road at the intersection of Ashe Road, Master Trooper Hannah Davidson said. The area is near U.S. 321 southwest of Rock Hill.
A Ford SUV that had been stopped on Ashe Road tried to enter Garvin Road, where a 2021 Harley-Davidson was heading south, Davidson said in a statement released by the highway patrol. The motorcycle went down as the rider attempted to avoid a collision with the SUV, according to Davidson. The two vehicles did not make contact, she said.
The motorcyclist died at Piedmont Medical Center.
The name of the motorcycle rider has not yet been released as the highway patrol and York County Coroner continue the investigation.
