Motorcyclist injured in Rock Hill crash dies

A motorcyclist who crashed into an SUV on Heckle Boulevard Saturday has died, according to the Rock Hill Police Department.

George Kannon, 62, of York, died Wednesday night, according to Capt. Mark Bollinger. Kannon was injured in a crash Saturday morning on Heckle Boulevard and flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. Kannon was traveling south on Heckle Boulevard toward Hollis Lakes Road on his 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle and had a green light, Bollinger said. Barbara Piereth, of Rock Hill, was traveling north on Heckle and turned left on a blinking yellow caution light in her 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. Kannon’s motorcycle hit the SUV.

Investigators say Kannon was wearing a helmet. Piereth was charged with failure to yield the right of way, Bollinger said.

This is the second traffic fatality in the city of Rock Hill in 2016. The first happened Jan. 28 when a driver was ejected from a rollover crash on the 1200 block of Ogden Road.
