Injuries in Rock Hill crash near York Technical College that blocked road, police say

Part of one of Rock Hill’s busiest roads was blocked for hours early Friday morning after a crash near York Technical College that left one person with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The wreck happened around 6:40 a.m. on U.S. 21, also called Anderson Road, near the entrance to the school, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.

Southbound lanes of the road were blocked temporarily as police and other emergency crews worked the scene, Chavis said.

The police department’s Serious Accident Reconstruction Team determined a Mitsubishi stopped at the traffic light at Anderson Road and Tech Park Boulevard was hit in the back by a Ford truck, Chavis said. The driver of the Mitsubishi had life-threatening injuries, Chavis said.

The driver of the Ford was issued a citation for driving too fast for conditions, Chavis said.

The names of the persons involved has not been released.

Mark Simmons, Rock Hill Fire Department deputy chief, said firefighters responded to the scene. The injured person was transported to a hospital by EMS, Simmons said.

There was a second, unrelated crash at the same location around 11 a.m. involving a police vehicle, Chavis said. That unrelated crash was investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Anderson Road was re-opened after 1 p.m. Friday, police said.
