A 5-year-old child in one car and a pair of sisters and their cousin in a different car were the four people who died Sunday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 77 in York County, officials said.

A 2015 Chrysler 200 traveling north on I-77 was struck head-on by a 2014 Chrysler 300 that was traveling south in the northbound lanes, said Master Trooper David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The collision happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday near mile marker 80, Jones said.

Monday, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast identified the four people who were killed. All the persons who died in the two cars were from Rock Hill, Gast said.

All three people in the 2015 Chrysler died at the crash scene, Gast said. They were Jasmine Givens, 27; Briasia Moore, 20; and Nykiera Moore, 17, Gast said. The two Moore victims were sisters, Gast said. Givens, the driver in that car, was a cousin to the Moore sisters, Gast said.

Rylee Pate, 5, was a passenger in the 2014 car that was traveling in the wrong direction, Gast said.

Pate attended an elementary school in the Rock Hill school district, Gast said.

The driver of the car in which Pate was a passenger was a woman, Jones said. That woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, Jones said. Her condition was unavailable Monday.

The collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Department of Public Safety Multi-Agency Investigation Team (MAIT) and the coroner’s office.

In 2021, 36 people have died in crashes in York County, public safety statistics show.
