Rock Hill driver dies in York County crash with logging tractor-trailer, officials say
A man was killed Monday night in a York County crash with a tractor-trailer logging truck, officials said.
The driver who died was identified Tuesday as Richard Brock, 65, of Rock Hill, said Sabrina Gast, York County Coroner.
The collision happened around 6 p.m. at the intersection of S.C. 5 and Reservation Road, southwest of Rock Hill and Interstate 77, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
A Kia SUV was crossing S.C. 5 from Reservation Road when it was struck by the tractor-trailer, Ridgeway said.
Brock, the driver of the Kia, died at the crash scene, Ridgeway and Gast said.
No passengers were reported to be in the SUV, officials said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt, Ridgeway said.
The wreck remains under investigation by the S.C. Department of Public Safety and the coroner’s office.
York County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and assisted with traffic. The crash closed S.C. 5 for hours as drivers were detoured to Cureton Ferry Road before S.C. 5 re-opened late Monday.
The fatality is the 41st on York County roads in 2021, according to the public safety department. In 2020, York County reported 36 highway deaths, public safety department statistics show.
