Pedestrian hurt when hit by car while crossing Rock Hill street near I-77, police say

A pedestrian was seriously hurt after he was hit by a car Monday morning while crossing Celanese Road near Interstate 77, police said.

The person injured is a male age 21, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department. He was transported to Piedmont Medical Center hospital with life-threatening injuries, Chavis said in a written statement.

The person’s name has not been released.

Police found the man unconscious in the roadway at the intersection of Celanese and Riverview roads around 2:15 a.m. Monday, the police statement said.

Officers determined the pedestrian was crossing Celanese Road when he was struck by a Nissan Rogue that was headed east toward nearby I-77, police said.

The collision remains under investigation by the police department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.
