Pedestrian crossing road in Lancaster SC dies after collision with SUV, trooper says

A person crossing a road on foot in South Carolina died after being struck by an SUV near Lancaster, troopers said.

The name of the person who died has not been released by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.

The collision happened around 9:30 Wednesday night on S.C. 200 outside the Lancaster city limits, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was crossing in the road when struck by a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe, Bolt said.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt, Bolt said.

The pedestrian died at an area hospital after being transported by EMS, Bolt said.

The pedestrian fatality is the 44th in South Carolina in 2022, according to S.C. Department of Public Safety statistics. The pedestrian fatality is the first in Lancaster County in 2022, records show.

In Lancaster County, there have been five total fatalities in collisions on county roads in 2022, public safety records show.
