Motorcycle driver killed in York County SC crash with SUV, trooper says

A motorcycle driver was killed in a South Carolina crash with an SUV late Tuesday in York County, officials said.

The collision happened before 10 p.m. on S.C. 55 in northwest York County at Laurelwood Drive, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a 2012 Jeep SUV, Miller said.

The driver of the SUV, a 38-year-old York County man, was not hurt, Miller said.

The name of the motorcyclist who died in the crash has not been released by the York County Coroner’s Office.

The area of the crash is west of Clover and south of the North Carolina state line.

The wreck remains under investigation by the coroners office, the highway patrol, and the S.C. Department of Public Safety Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT.)

So far in 2022, 55 motorcyclists have been killed in crashes on South Carolina highways, according to the public safety department.

The fatal motor vehicle collision is the seventh on York County roads in 2022, public safety statistics show.
