2 Lancaster County SC men identified after early morning fatal collision

Two South Carolina drivers died in a head-on crash between a van and a pickup truck Wednesday in Lancaster County, officials said.

Both drivers were from Lancaster County . The crash happened before 6 a.m. and closed S.C. 903 for several hours, coroner and emergency officials said.

James Caulder, 34, of Kershaw, and Jerry Blackmon, 67, of Heath Springs, were the two drivers killed, according to a written release from Karla Knight-Deese, Lancaster County Coroner.

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol and the coroner’s office.

11 people have died in road crashes in Lancaster County in 2022, according to statistics from the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

The wreck area was east of the city of Lancaster. Detours affected morning commuters on S.C. 903 headed north toward Charlotte and west toward Rock Hill until the road re-opened hours after the crash, officials said.
