One person died and another was hurt in a head-on crash in South Carolina, officials said.

The collision happened around 3:25 p.m. Monday in Lancaster County on Shiloh Unity Road, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 2017 SUV and a 2003 pickup truck collided head-on, Ridgeway said in a statement released by the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

Both drivers were airlifted to Atrium Main hospital, Ridgeway said.

The driver of the SUV died, Ridgeway said.

The person who died at the hospital in Charlotte was identified Tuesday as Jonathan Montgomery, 45, of Lancaster, according to a statement from the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the pickup was injured, Ridgeway said.

The area of the crash is east of Lancaster and south of the state line with Union County, N.C.

The wreck remains under investigation by the highway patrol and the coroner’s office.
