Motorcyclist dies at Charlotte hospital after two crashes in Rock Hill, police say

A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Rock Hill, officials said.

The collision happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening in the 700 block of Albright Road, Rock Hill Police Department officers said.

The motorcyclist on a Harley-Davidson first struck the rear of a car, Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis said in a statement. The impact of the collision caused the motorcycle driver to fall to the road, where he then was struck by a pickup truck in the adjacent lane, Chavis said.

The motorcyclist, a male age 25, died at a Charlotte hospital, Chavis told The Herald.

The collision remains under investigation, police said.

The identity of the person who died has not yet been released by the Mecklenburg County, N.C. medical examiner, nor the York County Coroner’s Office.

The area of the crash is in southern Rock Hill, northeast of where Albright Road intersects with Heckle Boulevard.

The road fatality is believed to be the second in Rock Hill in 2023, police told The Herald on Thursday. A 12-year-old child died in January after being struck by a car while crossing Celanese Road near I-77.

The motorcycle fatality is the second in the area in less than a week. A Charlotte man died after a crash during the afternoon commute on U.S. 521 close to S.C. 160 near Fort Mill on Feb. 9, officials said.
