Motorcycle passenger killed, driver injured in York County crash near Fort Mill

A motorcycle passenger has died and the driver was hurt in a York County crash near Fort Mill’s Baxter Village, troopers said.

The collision happened Sunday on Sutton Road near Market Street, said Lance Cpl. Nick Pye of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a driver and passenger on board was traveling north on Sutton Road around 1 a.m. when the motorcycle fell on its side in the road, Pye said. A Jeep then struck the passenger, Pye said.

The identity of the motorcycle passenger has not yet been released by the York County Coroner.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to an area hospital, but the driver’s condition and identity have not been released.

The driver of the Jeep was not hurt, Pye said.

The crash scene is west of the town of Fort Mill and Interstate 77 and south of S.C. 160. It is near the Baxter Village residential and commercial development.

The S.C. Department of Public Safety Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash, along with troopers and the coroner’s office.

The fatality is the seventh on York County roads in 2023, according to public safety department statistics.
