Motorcyclist dies after SC head-on tractor-trailer crash in York, police say
A woman driving a motorcycle died after hitting a tractor-trailer head-on in the city of York, police said.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 321 south of downtown, York Police Department Lt. Sean Bailey said.
The Harley-Davidson the 46-year-old woman was driving went left of the center line then collided with the truck, according to a written statement from the police department. The woman was not wearing a helmet, police said. Motorcyclists over age 21 do not have to wear a helmet in South Carolina, state law shows.
The woman died after being taken to a Rock Hill hospital. She has not yet been identified by the York County Coroner. The fatal wreck in the city of around 9,000 people west of Rock Hill remains under investigation.
