Body found in Catawba River in SC at Chester/Lancaster line: Sheriff

A male body has been found in the Catawba River in South Carolina near a highway bridge that connects Chester and Lancaster counties, officials said.

Search and rescue teams, along with sheriff’s deputies and the coroner’s office from both counties, remained on scene along S.C. 9 Wednesday afternoon.

Officials have not released details about the identity of the person found.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to Lancaster County Coroner Karla Knight-Deese.

The area is about 20 miles south of Rock Hill near the small town of Fort Lawn, said Londa Pringle, spokesperson for the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
