A South Carolina man hit by a truck while on a York County Road near Rock Hill Wednesday night has died, officials said.

Billy Joe Baker, 37, of Catawba, died after the collision, according to York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.

A 2005 Chevrolet pickup struck Baker on U.S. 21 near Dot Faris Road after 10:30 p.m., said Cpl. Nick Pye of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The driver of the truck was not hurt, Pye said.

No other details about the crash have been released. The area on the highway is one of York County’s main north/south routes near the Catawba River outside the city.

The third York County road fatality comes a day after two Lancaster men died in a multi-vehicle crash in Fort Mill.
