Student in Rock Hill threatened to ‘shoot the school up’: Police charged him.

A male student at a Rock Hill school has been charged with making threats of violence, police said.

The student at Sullivan Middle School threatened to “shoot the school up,” according to a Rock Hill Police Department incident report filed Wednesday by the school resource officer.

The student’s identity and age have not been released. He was charged as a juvenile with making student threats to inflict bodily harm and will be prosecuted in South Carolina Family Court in York County, said Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis.

No students or staff were hurt, Chavis said.

Officers determined the student did not have a gun and did not have access to weapons, Chavis said.

“The charge was made because of the threat,” Chavis said.

After a teacher told school staff and police of the threat, the student was questioned, according to the police incident report. The student claimed to be joking, according to the report.

Officials with the Rock Hill school district could not be reached concerning what information was released to parents, or if the student will face school discipline.

The S.C. Department of Social Services has also been notified, according to police. The child was released into the custody of a DSS caseworker, police said.
