York woman shot into home with children inside during Christmas attack, police say
A York woman is charged with shooting into a family member’s home with children inside on Christmas Day, police said.
LaDiamond DeJewell Beckham, 27 is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of shooting into a dwelling, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and discharge of a gun inside the York city limits, according to police and jail records.
The spray of gunfire came after a family dispute, police said.
No one in the home in the 500 block of Thicket Run was wounded, police said. There were children inside the home, police said.
“It is extremely fortunate in the number of shots that were fired that no one was wounded or worse,” said Capt. Brian Trail of the York Police Department. “This was a very serious incident, and it is even more unfortunate that it happened on Christmas Day.”
The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m Wednesday in a densely populated south York neighborhood where the homes are close to each other, Trail said.
At least one bullet penetrated the walls, police said in an incident report. Shell casings were found outside the home by detectives and forensic units, officers said.
Several York officers responded to the scene after police were called.
Beckham was caught by officers on nearby California Street after a traffic stop, officers said. Officers seized a 9 millimeter handgun from the car, according to the police report.
Under South Carolina law, Beckham faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted of the charges of attempted murder and weapons violations.
Beckham was free on bond from an earlier arrest for two felony drug charges at the time of the shooting, South Carolina court records show.
Beckham is being held at the York County jail without bond on the pending charges connected to the shooting.
