Man riding in car shot in head in Chester; search on for suspect, sheriff says

A man riding in a car in Chester was shot in the head Sunday night, officials said.

The victim, 23, sustained a gunshot wound to the head while a passenger in a car that was near an apartment complex in the 600 block of Lancaster Highway, said Max Dorsey, Chester County Sheriff.

The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Dorsey said.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m.

Deputies responded to reports of shots being fired in the area, Dorsey said. Afterward, the victim was found in the emergency room at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Chester, Dorsey said. The victim had been transported to the hospital by private vehicle, Dorsey said.

Detectives, forensic officers and patrol deputies responded to the crime scene, Dorsey said.

No suspects have been arrested but deputies are investigating, Dorsey said.

No other information about the case has been released.
