Rock Hill man arrested and charged in attack on woman with pistol, cops say

A Rock Hill man sought for weeks in connection with a woman who was pistol-whipped has been arrested, police said.

Donterell Osha Evans, 25, was booked into the York County jail Monday, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department. The woman victim reported the attack on Dec. 3.

Police have had arrest warrants for Evans since the beating, Chavis said.

Evans was found by Rock Hill officers in the common area breezeway of an apartment building, Chavis said. Evans also was charged with drug possession after officers found illegal prescription drugs, according to a police incident report.

Evans was taken into custody without incident, according to Chavis.

Evans is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the Dec. 3 assault on a woman police describe as Evans’ girlfriend. The incident happened at an apartment on Kevin Lane, police and court documents show.

Evans is accused of hitting the victim in the head with a pistol, Chavis said.

Police found blood from the attack in two rooms in the apartment and on some stairs, incident reports showed. The victim was hospitalized with head injuries, Chavis said.

A conviction for attempted murder in South Carolina carries a penalty of as much as 30 years in prison.

Evans was denied bail in a first court appearance Monday and remains at the York County jail.
