2 dead in apparent murder-suicide, York County sheriff’s deputies say

Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in York County, deputies said.

The shooting was reported around noon Monday on Turkey Creek Ridge Road, south of York and southwest of Rock Hill near the small town of McConnells, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office.

They were husband and wife, Faris said. Detectives say the husband shot his wife, then himself.

The two people who died were identified Tuesday by York County Coroner Sabrina Gast as Jason Nivens, 42, and Miranda Nivens, 29.

No one else was reported injured in the home.

Officials have not released any other details.

The murder-suicide is the second in the area in two months. In November, police said a Chester man killed a woman he had been involved in a relationship with before killing himself.
