Chester homicide victim identified; had been beaten, coroner and sheriff say
The man found dead in Chester County Wednesday has been identified, officials said.
Terry Lee Jones, 57, was the victim in Wednesday’s homicide at a home on Pickney Road west of the city of Chester, said Terry Tinker, Chester County Coroner.
Jones was found dead shortly before noon Wednesday, Tinker said. Jones had been beaten, Tinker said.
An autopsy was done Thursday, Tinker said.
On Wednesday after discovering the body, the sheriff’s office issued a written statement, and issued a release on Facebook and Twitter social media, which stated the victim had been shot.
Chester County Sheriff Max Dorsey confirmed Thursday further investigation showed Jones was beaten, not shot.
“Initially we believed the victim had been shot, but the pathology examination showed that the victim had been beaten in the head,” Dorsey said Thursday afternoon.
No charges have been filed in the homicide case. The investigation remains ongoing, Dorsey said.
After the body was found Wednesday around noon, deputies, State Law Enforcement Division agents, and Chester Police Department officers were involved in a standoff on West Elliott Street in Chester after the homicide victim’s truck was found.
“Due to the potential volatility of the situation, as it was related to a murder investigation, sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter around the house as a precaution,” Dorsey said in a second written statement later on Wednesday.
The person in the home was later taken into custody after SLED agents used non-lethal gas and a robot to enter the home, Dorsey said.
