3 dead in York County double murder-suicide, including woman and child, deputies say

The York County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double murder and suicide that left a woman and child dead Wednesday morning near Rock Hill, officials said.

Deputies responded to a shooting just before 11 a.m. in the 1400 block of Yorkdale Road in the Lesslie Community of York County, according to a news release from the agency. Sharekia Johnson, 42, from Clover, and her five-year-old son were dead at the scene, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said.

Paul Johnson, Sr., 41, was taken to the hospital and died there from a self-inflicted wound, Gast said.

The shooting happened southeast of Rock Hill. Deputies blocked traffic on the rural road for several hours during the investigation.

The double murder-suicide is the second in 2020 that has been investigated by the sheriff’s office. In January, a man and a woman were found dead on Turkey Creek Ridge Road southwest of Rock Hill near the Town of McConnells, deputies said.

In February, the Rock Hill Police Department investigated a murder-suicide on Eden Terrace in which a man and a woman were killed, officers said.
