Rock Hill man found beaten to death in his home, police, coroner say

Rock Hill police are investigating the death of a man who was found beaten to death after an assault, officials said.

The male victim was found by officers around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the living room at his home on South Confederate Avenue, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department and York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.

“The victim was found beaten after an assault and died,” Chavis said.

Detectives, forensic units and other officers responded to the scene.

Gast identified the victim as John Ferrell, 59. Ferrell, lived in the home at 729 S. Confederate Ave. Gast said.

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

No arrests have been made, Chavis said.

The open murder investigation, which is being treated as a homicide, is the second in a week in Rock Hill that remains unsolved . On May 30, a man was shot to death on Carolina Avenue Extension.
