1 wounded, 1 sought after drivers exchange shots on I-77 in York County, deputies say

One person has been shot and a second is being sought by deputies after a shootout Friday morning on Interstate 77 in York County, officials said.

The person who was wounded was found in a vehicle at a convenience store at the intersection of Mount Gallant Road and Celanese Road just outside the Rock Hill city limits west of I-77, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office. The person’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Faris said.

It is believed that the two persons involved knew each other, Faris said. Two vehicles were traveling on I-77 when shots were fired, Faris said.

So far there have been no reports of other highway drivers being hurt in the gunfire, Faris said.

A large police and emergency vehicle presence could be seen along Celanese Road and On I-77.

Police officers from the Rock Hill Police Department, S.C. Highway Patrol, and sheriff’s office deputies are on scene where the victim was injured and on the highway, officials said.
