Rock Hill man charged with drug trafficking after 252 ‘Ecstasy’ pills, guns seized

A Rock Hill man has been charged with trafficking the drug Ecstasy after he was caught with the illegal drug and stolen guns after fleeing a traffic stop, police said.

Demarcus Kentrail Bussey, 32, was arrested Thursday, said B.J. Kennedy, commander of the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit.

Police seized 252 units of Ecstasy and two guns, Kennedy said. The guns had been stolen, he said.

Drug agents pulled Bussey over Thursday morning on Riverview Road near Interstate 77 and Cherry Road, Kennedy said. Bussey ran from the vehicle he was driving, leaving it in gear. Bussey’s vehicle struck a police car but no officers were hurt.

Bussey was caught after a foot chase, Kennedy said.

Ecstasy, also called Molly, MDMA and other street names, is an illegal recreational drug under South Carolina law. The drug, initially developed for psychiatric therapy, alters mood and perception, producing feelings of increased energy, pleasure, emotional warmth, and distorted sensory and time perception, according to the federal government National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Bussey is charged with trafficking more than 100 units of Ecstasy and six weapons charges from the guns that were found, according to police and court records.

He remains in the York County Detention Center under a $72,125 bond, according to jail records.
