Police find York fugitive in Alabama 4 months after being charged with attempted murder
A York County fugitive accused of kidnapping a woman and trying to kill her in April has been captured in Alabama, according to police and court records.
Police caught Paul Michael Jordan, 43, of Smyrna, in a traffic stop late last week, police said. He was extradited back to York late Monday, said Capt. Brian Trail of the York Police Department.
Police in South Carolina and other states had been looking for Jordan since shortly after the crime on April 20, Trail said.
Jordan was arrested during a traffic stop and was found with a gun, Trail said. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, Trail said.
“We had a fugitive warrant for his arrest,” Trail said. “This was a violent crime he is accused of here in York. We are pleased he is now in custody in York County to face the charges.”
Jordan is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after police say he stabbed a York woman and ran over her with a car on April 20, according to York police records.
Jordan faces up to 65 years in prison if convicted of all three charges, South Carolina law shows.
The woman was found April 20 outside the York County Sheriff’s Office at the Moss Justice Center in York. She had stab wounds to her head, both thighs and shoulder, police said.
The woman was hit by the car after she had been stabbed, police said. A passer-by took the woman to the sheriff’s office for assistance, police said. The woman was hospitalized and survived, Trail said.
The victim had a court order of protection against Jordan at the time of the incident in April, police said.
In 2012, Jordan was sentenced to 10 years in a South Carolina prison after pleading guilty to two felony drug charges, according to State Law Enforcement Division and court records.
He was free on a $5,000 bond at the time of April 20 incident after he was charged April 2 by York County Sheriff’s Office deputies with obstruction of justice in an unrelated case, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
Jordan was denied bail in a court hearing late Monday and remains at the York County jail without bond, records show.
