‘Extremely dangerous’: Suspect in fatal shooting has ties to Charlotte, York County
A fugitive from Maryland is being sought by deputies in Chester County in connection with a fatal shooting in Great Falls, according to police and court records.
A warrant charging murder has been issued against Kenneth Xavier Redfern Jr., 26, of Baltimore, Md., in connection with the shooting of Martimothy McIlwain on Sept. 12, said Max Dorsey, Chester County Sheriff.
Deputies are asking for the public’s help in finding Redfern.
Redfern has connections to Rock Hill, Charlotte, York County, and Chester, Dorsey said.
Dorsey said in a written statement to The Herald that Redfern should be considered “armed and extremely dangerous.”
The sheriff’s office has posted information about Redfern on the department’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
McIlwain, of Lancaster, was shot several times near a bar in Chester County, said Coroner Terry Tinker and sheriff’s officials.
Redfern is wanted by Maryland authorities, according to police and Maryland court records. He was arrested on 10 charges in February that include altering a weapon’s identification serial number, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, three counts of assault, and reckless endangerment, Maryland court records show.
In those cases Redfern was released on a $35,000 bond on Feb. 18, but failed to show up to court in Maryland, records show.
The Maryland court records show a warrant for Redfern’s arrest was issued Aug. 20 for his failure to appear in court.
Redfern has 2015 convictions for drugs and reckless endangerment in Maryland, according to Baltimore court records.
