2 people arrested after man shot during fight outside Rock Hill Galleria mall
Two people have been arrested after a man was shot outside a mall in Rock Hill Tuesday afternoon by a woman he shares a child with, police said.
The 39-year-old man was shot outside the Rock Hill Galleria mall near the Walmart before 4 p.m., said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.
The man, who was shot in the lower body, is expected to survive, Chavis said. Police have not identified the man.
Officers said the man was arguing with Daina Whiteside, 37, of York County. Cody Pearson, 38, identified as Whiteside’s friend, then injected himself into the argument and assaulted the man, Chavis said. As the two men were fighting, Whiteside shot the man, Chavis said.
Whiteside was located after the shooting and was taken into custody, police said. She is charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Chavis said. She could face as much as 25 years in prison if convicted, under South Carolina law.
Pearson was arrested at the scene, Chavis said. He is charged with assault and battery, police said.
A section of the mall parking lot was cordoned off and closed as officers, forensics and detectives worked the crime scene through the evening, Chavis said. Patrol cars and officers could be seen near the mall and adjacent to Dave Lyle Boulevard near Exit 79 of Interstate 77.
The mall itself remained open, Chavis said.
