SC man charged after bicyclist killed in fatal hit-and-run in Lancaster, trooper says

A South Carolina man has been charged after a bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run near Lancaster, police and coroner officials said.

Bryon Mackey, 30, of Lancaster, was arrested Monday on charges of reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident with death, and driving under suspension, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A pickup truck driven by Mackey struck a bicycle then left the scene Sunday on Springdale Road outside Lancaster, Miller said.

The bicyclist who died in the collision was identified by Lancaster County Coroner Karla Knight-Deese as Lamont Stuart, 59, of Lancaster.

The fatal crash remains under investigation by the S.C. Department of Public Safety Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) and the coroner’s office.
