SC man arrested in residential neighborhood after Rock Hill bank robbery, police say
A South Carolina man has been arrested on allegations of robbing a Wells Fargo bank branch in Rock Hill Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Officers arrested Eli Eason, 27, of Clover, in a residential neighborhood nearby after the crime happened after 1 p.m. at the bank on Celanese Road near the corner of India Hook Road, said Rock Hill Police Department Lt. Michael Chavis.
Eason is accused of showing a note to bank employees saying a robbery was going on before leaving with money he received from a teller, the police department said in a statement.
Eason ran from the bank, according to police. Responding officers took him into custody soon afterward on Matthews Drive south of the bank, Chavis said.
The area is on the city’s northern edge west of Interstate 77. The corridor along Celanese Road is one of York County’s busiest roads, S.C. Department of Transportation figures show.
No one was hurt and no weapons were shown during the robbery, Chavis said.
Eason is charged with entering a financial institution with intent to steal, according to police.
Police did not release how much money was taken or if it was recovered.
