Deputies in Chester County are urging the public to remain alert after an armed robbery at the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles office in Chester on Wednesday.

The DMV office is located off Belt Road close to the J.A. Cochran Bypass commercial area, near the Arby’s and McDonald’s restaurants. It is just outside the Chester city limits near the Chester County administration building.

Chester is located between Rock Hill and Columbia.

No injuries were reported in the robbery, said Londa Pringle, spokesperson for the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the suspect had not been located, the sheriff’s office said in the latest of a series of social media postings.

“Law enforcement will continue to patrol the area,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on social media. “The public is asked to continue to remain alert and to call 911 if anything suspicious is heard or seen.”

Sheriff Max Dorsey said in earlier postings on the sheriff’s official Facebook page deputies were using patrols, K-9 units and a drone to search for the robber. The suspect is considered “armed and dangerous,” the sheriff’s office said in an earlier social media posting.

Officials have not said if the suspect targeted customers or staff at the DMV.
