SC suspect turns self in to York police after man shot in back on Thursday
A suspect in a shooting Thursday night in York County in which a man was shot several times in the back turned himself in Friday, officials said.
Denareay Morshon Pendergrass, 32, of Clover, was booked into the York County jail at the Moss Justice Center, according to jail records, a written statement from the city of York Police Department and a posting on the department’s public Facebook page.
Police and jail records show Pendergrass faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and is being held without bail.
The 44-year-old victim has not been identified.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the city of York in the 400 block of Hickory Lane, according to Lt. Sean Bailey of the York Police Department and the department statement. The victim was taken to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, but his condition was unavailable.
No details about a motive for the shooting have been released.
The shooting happened in a residential area south of downtown York, east of U.S. 321. The city of York, the York County government seat, is west of Rock Hill and has a population of about 9,000 people.
It is unclear if Pendergrass has a lawyer.
