South Carolina deputies have charged a mother and her son after two teens were shot Wednesday afternoon in Chester County, officials said.

J’aki Avant Holt, 18, is charged with attempted murder, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, shooting into an occupied vehicle, first-degree assault and battery, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Sheriff Max Dorsey said in a statement. His mother, Lashonna Sherese Crafton, 46, is charged with accessory after a felony, Dorsey said.

The shooting happened before 6 p.m. on Ridgeway Road near Great Falls, Dorsey said. Deputies arrested both around 11 p.m. after “deputies were able to successfully identify and locate the vehicle used by the suspects to flee the scene,” Dorsey said.

Two 17-year-olds who have not been identified were wounded. Their injuries are not life-threatening but their conditions were not available Thursday.

It remains unclear what caused the shooting. Great Falls is between Rock Hill and Columbia near the Catawba River.

Both remain in the Chester County jail pending court appearances.
