A Rock Hill man has been arrested on a murder charge after shooting a relative several times Wednesday night, the York County sheriff said.

Ja’Quaireous Ny’Solomon Mobley, 23, also faces charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a written statement from Sheriff Tony Breeden. Mobley is in the county jail pending an initial court appearance.

The shooting happened before midnight in the 600 block of Porter Road south of Rock Hill.

The identity of the victim who was killed and his family relationship with Mobley has not yet been released by the York County coroner.

No other details have been released, including a possible motive for the shooting. Sheriff’s office spokesman Trent Faris told The Herald no one else was hurt and the investigation remains ongoing.

The homicide is the second in the York County sheriff’s jurisdiction this year. There was a fatal shooting in February near Carowinds Boulevard in Fort Mill in which the suspect was arrested afterward in a traffic stop.
