South Carolina deputies are investigating a pair of fatal shootings in York County that happened over the weekend in Fort Mill near Charlotte and near Lake Wylie.

One of the victims was a 16-year-old boy set to be a junior at Clover High School.

On Sunday morning, Kendale Richardson Williams, 23, was found shot to death around 3:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a Motel 6 on FootHills Way off Carowinds Boulevard near Interstate 77 Exit 90, according to York County Coroner Sabrina Gast and Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office.

No arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon in Williams’ death as detectives investigate, Faris said.

No one else was hurt in the gunfire. No details about a motive for the shooting have been released and it is unclear why Williams was in the area at the time he was killed.

The area adjacent to the exit close to the Charlotte border is a commercial strip on both sides of Carowinds Boulevard with stores, restaurants and hotels. There was a homicide in the same area off Carowinds Boulevard in February when a York County man was charged with murder in the shooting death of a Charlotte man.

In a separate unrelated shooting near Lake Wylie, deputies arrested a 19-year-old York County man Saturday on murder and weapons charges after a Clover teen was shot hours earlier in the Paddlers Cove subdivision.

Noah Immanuel Walter, 19, of Clover, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the death of 16-year old Nathan Antonio Martinez.

Martinez was a rising junior and also took classes at the Clover school district Center for Career Innovation, district spokesperson Stephanie Knott told The Herald on Monday.

Martinez was shot in the residential neighborhood near Lake Wylie. Deputies have not released a reason for that shooting, or if there was any relationship between the accused shooter and the teen who died.

Walter remains in the York County jail without bail after an initial court appearance.
