Man shot by SC hostage before capture at Fort Mill hospital after chase: Sheriff
A man shot in South Carolina by a person he held hostage before fleeing in a stolen car has been caught after a 20-mile police chase that ended in Fort Mill outside a hospital, officials said.
Officers took Eric Lee Pressley, 41, into custody Wednesday morning around 1 a.m. in the area of Piedmont Medical Center located at U.S. 21 and S.C. 160 close to Interstate 77, according to a Chester County Sheriff’s Office written statement.
Pressley remains hospitalized after being shot in the initial incident in Chester County, officials said.
He is expected to be taken to the Chester County jail when he is physically able, according to the sheriff’s office statement. His condition is unclear and law enforcement did not say how many times Pressley had been shot by the alleged victim in the hostage situation.
Late Wednesday, the Chester sheriff issued the statement on its official Facebook social media page.
The investigation remains ongoing, Chester sheriff’s office spokesperson Londa Pringle said later Wednesday.
York Sheriff: Suspect caught at hospital ER
A person at an Oak Hill Road home in Chester County told deputies of being assaulted and held hostage late Tuesday before getting a gun and firing at Pressley, the statement said. Pressley drove away in the victim’s vehicle after being wounded, deputies said.
Officers found the vehicle near a QT gas station off S.C. 9 near I-77 in Chester County and tried to make a traffic stop before Pressley fled north, according to the statement. Chester County deputies first pursued him, then York County deputies and S.C. Highway Patrol troopers became involved after the chase entered York County near Rock Hill.
York County deputies assisted in the pursuit on I-77 and were part of a felony traffic stop outside the hospital’s emergency room, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff.
The identity of the victim in the alleged kidnapping or any previous relationship between the victim and suspect has not been released.
